CONCORDIA, Kansas — The sensational sophomore season by Cloud County Community College men's soccer player Luiz Garcia was recognized on the national level Monday as he was named to the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer All-American teams.
Garcia was voted a Second-Team All-American after a breakout season that saw him score 20 goals this past fall, giving him the third most single-season goal total in Cloud County history.
The native of Campo Grande, Brazil was the unanimous Offensive Player of the Year in the Region VI and KJCCC West. Garcia was also a First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-Region VI selection after leading the T-Birds to a 14-3 overall season and back-to-back KJCCC West titles.
Garcia molded himself from a role player as a freshman — four goals and three assists in 17 games — to a dynamic impact player this past fall. Garcia started all 15 games he played in and had a streak of 12 straight games where he scored at least one goal.
He will leave Concordia fourth all-time in goals scored in a career at Cloud County (24) and fifth in points in a single season (46).
"Luiz absolutely, 100 percent deserves it. The kid bought into my coaching and into the team in the spring season last year and I knew he'd have a record-setting year," said Cloud County head coach, James Ross. "I'm super pumped for him. He worked his butt off to get it."
