HESSTON, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College women's soccer team, behind a career day from freshman Franciele Cupertino, kicked off the second round of KJCCC West action with a 6-2 road win over the Hesston College on Saturday.

Cupertino led the onslaught with a career-high four goals, tying the midfielder with fellow freshman Izabella Christina, who had three assists on Saturday, for the team lead with 11 on the season.

Cloud County (9-1 overall, 7-1 KJCCC) stormed out to a 5-0 lead over the Larks (0-11 overall, 0-8 KJCCC).

Freshman forward Fernanda Peinado got the scoring started 10 minutes in. Freshman midfielder Thaina Cavalcante followed with her fourth goal of the season less than a minute later to put the T-Birds up 2-0 with 36:06 remaining in the first half before Cupertino netted the next three Cloud County goals to put Hesston College away.

In the second half, the Larks briefly cut the T-Birds lead to 5-2 with 12:10 remaining, but Cupertino was able to answer with her fourth goal of the game with 8:08 remaining to put a bow on her performance and the 6-2 victory.

As a team, Cloud County finished with 23 shots on goal while limiting Hesston College to just four shot opportunities.

Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Cordice earned her second victory of the season, finishing with one save, while freshman Becka Dreier also recorded a save off the bench.

The T-Birds will continue their current four-game road swing at 2 p.m. on Wednesday when they head off to face Dodge City Community College.
