CONCORDIA, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College women's soccer team grinded out a 3-0 home victory on Wednesday at Harold M. Clark Stadium to earn its fourth straight KJCCC West victory.
Cloud County (12-1 overall, 10-1 KJCCC) got off to a quick start as freshman Izabella Christina scored her 10th goal of the season off a beautiful crossing pass from freshman Franciele Cupertino just 2:45 into the first half.
Garden City (2-12 overall, 2-9 KJCCC) was able to hang around and keep it a one-goal game over the next 40 minutes, but the T-Birds were able to firmly swing momentum with a late score just before the half.
Sophomore forward Gabriela de Jesus capitalized on a Broncbusters turnover in front of their own goalkeeper box, drilling a one-hopper past the keeper for her second goal of the season to make it a 2-0 Cloud County advantage with 2:02 remaining in the half.
In the second half, the T-Birds added one final insurance goal when sophomore midfielder Maria Barbosa made a long, right-to-left pass to a streaking Fernanda Peinado, who then fired a rocket into the bottom-left corner of the net to make it a 3-0 lead.
The score was the team-leading 13th goal of the season for Peinado.
In net, sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Cordice was solid in her limited opportunities as she stopped all three Garden City shots she faced.
With the win, Cloud County is now 2-1 on the season at Harold M. Clark Stadium, located on the Concordia High School campus.
Due to the recent heavy rains in Concordia, the T-Birds will be back at Harold M. Clark Stadium on Saturday when it hosts Northwest Kansas Technical College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
