CONCORDIA, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College track and field teams will set its sights on a pair of KJCCC West titles, and possible Region VI championships, this Friday and Saturday in Pittsburg, Kansas when the T-Birds compete in the Region VI/KJCCC Multis.
Cloud County, ranked No. 3 in the country on the men's side and No. 14 in the women's USTFCCCA Week 4 poll, has a total of 26 performances by athletes this season that are top-5 marks among Region VI members.
The T-Birds own the No. 1 seed in nine different events heading into the weekend.
Freshman thrower Vashon McCarthy has the top mark in the men's shot-put this season at 17.21 meters, while fellow field athlete Chance Chrisman, last year's KJCCC West champion in the pole vault, looks to repeat as the No. 1 seed in the event this season.
On the track, Cloud County's distance medley team of Darrien Lipscomb, Stephen Marindich, Moses Dirane and Thobile Mosito have the best time in the Region VI conference this season with their school record-setting performance of 10:07.39 — 20 seconds faster than the No. 2 seeded Butler team at 10:27.54.
Mosito and Dirane are front-runners to win in the 5,000-meter, 3000-meter, mile and 1,000-meter runs as the duo are either ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in all four events. Mosito is the No. 1 seed in the 3,000-meter run and 5,000-meter run. Dirane is the top seed in the mile and 1,000-meter run.
